In Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) inaugural Data Centre in Cyberjaya, a holistic and sustainable approach was taken to design the building and its supporting infrastructures. Surrounded by a green and resilient environment, the Data Centre is designed for flexibility and future-proofing, incorporating green and low-carbon processes including embodied and operational CO2 considerations. This enhanced sustainable outlook looks to advance TNB’s net zero agenda, making it the first of its kind in Malaysia.

Alluding to the concept of a digital twin, the Data Centre translates the transfer of information between the physical realm and the digital world via a cloud network into two highly distinctive architectural forms.
The comprehensive nature-based solutions inform a strategic landscape design that not only enhances occupants’ contact with the outdoors, but also decreases surrounding temperatures by 3-5°C.
The original site undulates with a low water depression traversing east-west in the middle of the site. A biophilic design is not directly incorporated onto the building envelopes due to plant sensitivity to data centre technologies but is instead applied to the compound. Water as a resource is likewise carefully managed through the bioswale and drainage cells at surface parking areas in a dedicated stormwater management system.
